Cooper River Bridge
–
just over 5 miles
Beginning at the foot of the bridge in Mt. Pleasant just across the Cooper River from Charleston, you’ll run over the bridge and back. Offering the most expansive and impressive views of Charleston seen from above, this is a portion of the route of the well-known annual Cooper River Bridge Run 10K. For an absolutely splendid view, schedule this run for early in the morning when you can see the sun rise over Mt. Pleasant, or in the evening as the sun sets over Charleston.
Optional 3 miles – Continue your run after coming back over the bridge to run to Patriot’s Point and back, taking in a view of the Yorktown aircraft carrier and the Charleston skyline.

Historical Downtown – 5 mile loop
Run along the Battery, past Rainbow Row, down through the Market, and along the harbor in Waterfront Park for an inclusive tour of all things Charleston. Cobblestone streets, carriages, Charleston single houses, Fort Sumter, tiny alleyways leading to courtyard gardens, and sweetgrass baskets mark some of the sights that you’ll cherish and associate with your run through time.
The Barrier Islands – 4-16
miles or more, depending on exact route and islands covered ... and, of course, which way the sea breeze is blowing!
Sullivan’s Island and the Isle of Palms offer beaches, quiet routes, streets lined with draping oak trees, and possibly glimpses of dolphins, sharks, and other sea creatures. If you are lucky you may find a few sand dollars on the beach, and it’s a good thing…Sullivan’s Island was recently named the most expensive zip code in the nation. And on this route you’ll see the homes that made it so!
Hampton Park –
3 mile loop
Beginning at Brittlebank Park, you’ll run through the beautiful military campus of The Citadel. Included in this run is Hampton Park, a 1-mile loop around a park overflowing with azaleas every spring. Closed to vehicular traffic on weekends, Hampton Park is a popular spot for runners every day.
Optional mileage – add on loops around Hampton Park
Daniel Island – 4-12 miles
Venture slightly further from Charleston to neighboring Daniel Island. This up-and-coming island town offers runners a tranquil run inclusive of riverfronts, wooded trails, paved pedestrian paths, and homes from charming to magnificent.
