Downtown, the Texas State Capital and University of Texas
– 5 miles
See 6th Street before the music starts at night, run past the historic Driskill Hotel and along Congress Avenue. Swing by the Capital Building and the Governor’s Mansion. Then cruise around the University of Texas campus – the football stadium, UT Tower and other landmarks. Finally, visit the Stevie Ray Vaughn statue on Lady Bird Lake and the Congress Avenue Bridge (the “Bat Bridge”), home to over a million Mexican Free Tail bats.

Lady Bird Lake Trail – 5, 7 or 10 miles
Lady Bird Lake (formerly Town Lake) is a beautiful dammed section of the Colorado River which flows right through the center of Downtown Austin. It is mostly a gentle grade and soft packed surface. Along the way, you will see snapping turtles, herons and – on warm evenings – over a million bats leaving the Congress Avenue Bridge on their nightly quest for mosquitoes.
Barton Creek Green Belt – 7 miles or more
If you want to try something a little more rugged & remote, you will enjoy this run. We start on the gentle Lady Bird Lake Trail, grab some water at the famous Barton Springs swimming pool, and then head off onto the beautiful but semi-technical Barton Creek Green Belt. Depending on the time of year and rainfall, some water crossings may be involved. There are few steep grades, and the footing varies between gravel and limestone rock, but you will experience perfect peace and tranquility in some wonderful Texas landscape within only a couple of miles of the center of town!
